(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – “Santa Clause Conquers the Martians” is a dreadful bit of holiday coal every movie goer should avoid. The 1964 Christmas (alleged) comedy is unforgettable, painfully bombarding the watchers memory with horrible acting and special effects.

The film had a $200,000 budget, which surprises most viewers given the tacky style. The movie has become a joke as the worst christmas film ever made. Now, if viewers enjoy horribly acted films with make-up peeling off the actors faces, then this is definitely the film to watch. Much like watching a car accident, you can never look away just to see how bad it can get.

My three year old little sister watched the film with me and was bored within the first ten minutes, choosing instead to watch SpongeBob, and laughed at the actors saying, “They look funny,” and that “this is boring.”

The movie stars John Call as Santa Claus, Vincent Beck as Voldar, the grumpy Martian and Victor Stiles and Donna Conforti as annoyingly cute children Billy and Betty.

The one hour and 20 minute sci-fi family comedy could not seem any slower. The ghastly film tells the story of a community of Martians who, enraged by their children’s obsession with Santa Claus, travel to Earth to kidnap the jolly man and two Earth children. With the help of a dim-witted Martian Santa and the children bring joy and Christmas spirit to the people of Mars and are returned to Earth.

The horrible film is so dreadful and deservedly forgotten, today’s generation at LRHS has never heard of it.

Junior Marissa Dyer said, “Most Christmas movies are classics, like the Doctor Suess movies or the Night Before Christmas, but I’ve never heard of that, and honestly I would never want to watch it.”
