(LAKEWOOD RANCH, FL) – LRHS Student Government Association (SGA) is hosting an outdoor “Sadie Hawkins” dance.

SGA will host the event 7-10 p.m., Feb. 7 in the courtyard area between the auditorium and cafeteria.

Sadie Hawkins dances originated from the old “Li’l Abner” comic strip describing a day when all the single girls could chase eligible bachelors around town. It was a girl named Sadie Hawkins’ favorite day of the year.

Girls will be responsible for asking the boys to the dance for a change. The dress code is informal. Students area allowed to wear jeans, flannels and other appropriate clothing.

“I think it’s a really cool idea. It’s something different from the usual dances, it should be a lot of fun,” said Senior SGA member Christina Rothenberger.

Proceeds from the dance will benefit LRHS sophomore Matt Baar’s ongoing battle against cancer.

SGA adviser Kent Rehnquist said, “I’m very excited for this dance. I hope a lot of girls ask a lot of guys.”
