On Tuesday news outlets across the globe reported
the story of Amina Arraf, who it was claimed wrote a blog called ‘A Gay Girl in
Damascus’, a mixture of erotic prose and updates about Syria’s uprising,
including her participation in anti-regime protests.
Who would ghost write lesbian “erotic prose”?
I would make meye6 chief suspect based on the Mail’s deflecting headline:
Does kidnapped U.S. lesbian blogger in Syria actually exist… or did she steal London woman’s identity?
“We need something to hold against the regime in Syria.”
“How about having them do something really nasty that they won’t be able to deny.”
“Yeah, what did you have in mind?”
“Well…since our Arab Spring started, we have already used the one about them shooting protestors.”
“Mm hmm.”
“And the one about them hoarding gold-“
“Ah, an actual crime. Yep”
“So, boss, it looks like we haven’t got anything good that’s actually real. What about creating a heartbreak story about an innocent woman victimised at the hands of the state.”
“But that’s the oldest story of all! Neda who was shot by the Iranians, Anne Frank, etc…”
“Yep but both those stories were rooted in fact. This one will be wholly fictional. An innovation if I may say so.”
“Okay then explain more.”
“Well, we will create a lesbian blogger who will be presecuted by the Syrian regime. That way, we can also reinforce the image of homosexuals as precious innocent flowers.”
“Ooh, it’s a double whammy!…ahem, okay it’s a go. Get a picture to go with it. You know, someone from London. One of the advantages of flooding this place with the uncivilised is you’re bound to find someone who is kind of like an arab but…more good looking. You’ll then have to write something appropriate for a lesbian blog.”
“You mean utter filth.”
“Yes, the filthier the better.”
(pauses)
“Here how about this one I found on facebook. Looks a bit like an Arab. Born in America.”
“Perfect! That way it won’t look too obvious that we did it.”
“But she’s Croatian – they’re actually European.”
“Bah, they all look the same. The public are so stupid they don’t even know what Bilderberg is. It’ll do.”
“Okay then, I’ll get to work creating the blog. I’ll give Norman the authoring job.”
“No no don’t do that.”
“Why not?”
(looks around, then whispers)
“He’s one of the few people around here who’s actually herterosexual.”
