NABLUS, (PIC)– The Ahrar center for prisoners’ studies and human rights has held the Israeli prison service (IPS) fully responsible for the life of detained Hamas leader Ra’fat Nassif who has been on hunger strike for six days.

Fuad Al-Khafsh, the center’s director, said that Nassif, 40, was completely refusing food for the past six days and was held in isolation in Megiddo prison, and refuses to end his strike until the IPS responds to his demands.

He said that Nassif, who has been in administrative custody since 19/3/2009, has asked the Megiddo prison administration to ensure his full rights as an administrative detainee but was snubbed by that administration.

He added that Nassif then declared hunger strike, describing the detainee’s demands as “legitimate” and guaranteed by international laws and even the Israeli laws.

Khafsh appealed to international institutions and human rights organization to urgently intervene to save the life of Nassif, who announced that he would continue his strike until either death or return of his rights.
