GAZA, (PIC)– First deputy speaker of the Palestinian legislative council Dr. Ahmed Baher stated that apologizing for the Palestinian people and providing them with all forms of political and economic support are the minimum atonement accepted from Britain for its political and moral crime represented in its Balfour declaration.

In a statement on the 93rd anniversary of Balfour declaration, Dr. Baher said that Britain is fully responsible for all crimes and calamities that have been befalling the Palestinian people since it pledged to give Jews a homeland in Palestine.

He added that Britain’s crime did not end with its Balfour declaration, but it persisted in giving all kinds of support and protection for the establishment of Israel and is still providing it with political cover for its crimes and racist stands without any regard for freedom values and human rights principles which it (Britain) brags about in public.

“This painful anniversary constitutes an essential stimulus to full national rallying around the inalienable Palestinian constants and rights, especially the refugees’ right of return,” the Palestinian lawmaker said.

“Adhering to our right to resist the occupation, protecting our national unity and providing elements of steadfastness and fortitude for our people are the optimal guarantee for sustaining our national process and saving our just cause from being liquidated and targeted by the American administration and its international and regional allies in cahoots with some of our compatriots, the lawmaker highlighted.

For his part, senior Hamas official Ali Baraka stated that the emergence of ill-fated Balfour declaration in November 1917 confirmed the Euro-American conspiracy against the Palestinian people and Britain’s support for the Zionist gangs which committed massacres against the Palestinian people and displaced them from their homes.

In a press release on Tuesday, Baraka held Britain historically and morally responsible for the plight (Nakba) that befell them in 1948.

“The Nakba happened when Balfour declaration was implemented, so Britain bears responsibility for all disasters and tragedies of the Palestinian people that resulted from the Balfour declaration,” the Hamas official emphasized.

He demanded the British government to redress the past mistakes, do justice to the Palestinian people and get them back their historical rights, primarily their right to return to their homes they were expelled from.
