OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Khaled Abu Arafa, former minister of Jerusalem affairs, has revealed that the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) was linking cancellation of the deportation of four Jerusalemite deputies to the conclusion of the prisoners’ exchange deal with the Palestinian factions holding Gilad Shalit.

He said in a press statement that the decision to exile the Jerusalemite deputies had turned into an international embarrassment for the IOA, adding, however, that no Israeli party was willing to bear the consequences of canceling the decision.

Abu Arafa, who has been sitting-in at the Red Cross compound in occupied Jerusalem along with two other Jerusalemite deputies for 125 days running, said that the IOA was looking for a way out of this fix.

Arab and European diplomats in addition to Palestinian officials had informed the deputies of this new development, he said, adding that the delegates told them the Israeli step was meant to seek approval of all Israeli institutions on the exchange deal, which would include canceling their banishment.

Abu Arafa noted that the Israeli courts were adjourning hearings into the case without passing any positive or negative ruling, which points to retaining the issue pending until a political decision was adopted to close the case.
