OCCUPIED JERUSALEM, (PIC)– Israeli occupation policemen razed the Sahwa mosque in Rahet Bedouin village in 1948 occupied Palestine at dawn Sunday at the pretext that it was built by the Islamic movement without permit.

The Hebrew radio said that inhabitants at the village protested the act and threw stones at the policemen, adding that the sound of gunfire was heard but no casualties were reported.

The broadcast said that a number of citizens were arrested for questioning, noting that the policemen used teargas to disperse the protestors, some of whom were carried to local clinics.

Police Commissioner Dudi Cohen arrived at the scene along with southern district police chief Cmdr. Yochanan Danino, who supervised over the operation. The latter claimed that the mosque constituted a blatant violation of the law after the court ruled that it was built illegally.

A number of residents called on the Rahet municipality chief Fayez Abu Seheban to resign his post.

Abu Seheban expressed absolute anger at the demolition, adding that it came at a time contacts were underway between his municipality and the Israeli interior ministry to solve the issue.

Tens of Islamic activists started to rebuild the mosque in the same place, as the mayor called for a single day strike in protest.
