GAZA, (PIC)– Gaza’s only power plant successfully operated for days on industrial fuel purchased from Egypt, vice-president Ziad Al Dhadha said Monday on the program Meeting with an Official held by the media bureau in Gaza.

The government in Gaza began to withhold taxes on electricity previously forwarded to the finance ministry in Ramallah because of the PA’s failure to provide in return the fuels required to run the electricity station in Gaza.

Officials in Gaza have blamed the increased downsizing and corruption in the PA on the current electricity crisis in the Gaza Strip, a dilemma that has forced them to come up with a primary alternative to the fuel provided by Israel.

Salam Fayyad’s de facto government in Ramallah repeatedly reneged on agreements made under the auspices of independent parties for solutions on providing Gaza’s power plant with needed fuels. But the power shortages made return visits up until now.

The plant reacted positively during a trial period using fuel from both Egypt and Israel, said senior Gaza electricity official Waleed Sa’d Saayil. Funds were spared through the conversion, but plant operators were concerned about the risk of side effects on the plant’s equipment.

Plant operators passed the decision to use alternative fuels to run the plant after giving weight to need of the Gazans. The goal was to keep the plant running for 24 hours a day, every day of the week.

The electric company completed its second stage in refurbishing the station before making a full conversion, that would include erecting new lines from the stations to the distribution centers to accommodate to the new amount anticipated to be produced.
