China said it is ready to renew its recognition of a Palestinian state amid growing moves by Latin America states, a report said.

Recently Bolivia has recognized Palestine as an independent state, following the lead of Brazil, Argentina and Uruguay.

Chinese Deputy Foreign Minister Zhia Jun told Asharq Al-Awsat in a statement, “China is prepared to renew its recognition of a Palestinian state if the UN Security Council or the United Nations pass such a resolution.”

He reminded that China was “one of the first countries that recognized the PLO in the 1960s”.

Jun expressed Beijing’s readiness “to expand and enhance economic and cultural cooperation with the Islamic countries.”

The statement in response to the newspaper followed a visit by the Chinese deputy Foreign Minster to the OIC headquarters, the first visit by a high-ranking Chinese government official to the OIC headquarters in Saudi Arabia.

After the announcements from the South American countries, Palestinian negotiators urged European countries, for the first time, to also recognize a Palestinian state in the occupied West Bank and Gaza Strip.
