GAZA, (PIC)– Palestinian Legislative Council deputy speaker, Ahmed Bahr, phoned Arab League Secretary-General Amr Moussa noon Sunday asking him to come to the aid of the six Hamas hunger strikers who have been demanding their freedom from the Palestinian Authority security system for the last month.

Bahr illustrated for Moussa the inhumane conditions prisoners face in the PA facilities, and briefed him on prisoner Muhannad Nerokh who was pronounced clinically dead as a result from his hunger strike.

The Palestinian Supreme Court ruled for the release of all six peaceful protesters a year back, a decision PA security militias have yet to implement.

Moussa pledged that he would take necessary action to save the situation.

Hamas said in a press statement Sunday that it holds Mahmoud Abbas alongside his security militias responsible for Nerokh’s clinical death, saying his condition resulted from arbitrary treatment and refusal to honor court decisions issued last year’s onset.

Palestinian lawmaker Mohammed al-Khateeb told the PIC that PA intelligence reneged after agreements he made with officers to transport the six strikers to their home towns last Thursday ahead of their full release. The process was supposed to require less than a month. Hamas named intelligence agency chief Majid Faraj as one of the officers who agreed to the deal.

Khateeb said he paid a visit to the hospital treating the sick strikers who were transferred there but only found two security officers who denied him entry to the patients.

Three of the strikers have been admitted into hospitals because of their deteriorating medical conditions.
