GAZA, (PIC)– The Palestinian Legislative Council pitched a sit-in tent Sunday morning demanding renewed Arab and international mobilization to deter an Israeli decision to exile several Arab MPs from the holy city of Jerusalem.

Three Arab elected officials in Jerusalem stationed themselves in front of Red Cross headquarters in Jerusalem after receiving threats by the Israeli government to exile them. They have remained there for the past six months.

Another representative Mohammed Abu Teir was jailed for his decision to remain in Jerusalem until he was eventually exiled.

“The occupation (Israel) wants to strip the holy city of its representatives,” said PLC Speaker Aziz Dweik. He said he was astonished over Arab, Muslim silence over the exile decision. He called Abu Teir’s exile a black spot in Arab Muslim history in light of the silence.

Deputy Speaker Ahmed Bahr emphasized that everything Israel is doing is in breech of international law. He called on UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon and his counterpart in the Arab League Amr Moussa for intervention.

Threatened MP Ahmed Attoun expressed by phone appreciation for all efforts made to put a stop to the decision that was made against him and his colleagues.
