An Israeli newspaper revealed Monday that the Jordanian monarch, Abdullah II, refused to accept Israeli Prime Minister Netanyahu in Amman due to the current deadlock in the Israeli-Palestinian peace process.

The Israeli Haaretz newspaper reported on Monday that Netanyahu’s adviser Dr. Uzi Arad, who met with Nasser al-Lozi, chairman of the Royal Court and Foreign Minister Nasser Judeh in Amman last week replied in a lukewarm way to Netanyahu’s request to meet with the Jordanian monarch.

Sources close to the Jordanian decision-making circles, said the message conveyed to the Israeli official was that there is no convincing reasons for the visit is due to the faltering peace talks.

However, sources in Netanyahu’s office said that he telephoned the Jordanian king upon his return from a meeting with the Egyptian President in Sharm el-Sheikh last week and informed him about his talks with Hosni Mubarak. The sides “agreed to meet soon,” sid the sources close to Netanyahu.
