AL-KHALIL, (PIC)– MP Nazar Ramadan said if Palestinian leaders do not want to see another Tunisia or Egypt, they must come to terms with the people.

Ramadan represents the Change and Reform bloc in the Palestinian Legislative Council.

Dramatic events that developed in Tunisia and Egypt are a lesson for all to take, he told the PIC.

“The denial of the people’s will and rights and addressing them from ivory towers will not last too long. These types of leaders should take lessons from their predecessors.”

Many lessons can be learned from Tunisia and Egypt. The denial of religion, values, morals and the right of the people to express their opinions was the sin rulers insisted upon, Ramadan said. The people were stripped of their security, unemployment rose, incomes fell and restrictions were placed on job seekers

This social injustice created a state of rebellion inside Arab societies making them volatile, he went on to say.

Discussing regions controlled by the Palestinian Authority, Ramadan said: “Matters need a serious and honest stand from all. Palestinians who have lived in deprivation from the occupation, suppression, killing and siege, are suffering from poverty, unemployment, inflation and frequent security persecution under the PA.”

The time has come for the PA to come to terms with its people and for the Palestinians to live freely and safely, heal their wounds and unite, he said.

“Before matters explode, the poor become enraged and the people revolt demanding their freedoms, it is necessary to return to the people and their representatives, and the Legislative Council must convene to discuss all crises in a true spirit.”
