Illegal Israeli settlers in the East Jerusalem settlement of Maale Adumim have submitted a demand to the occupation authorities calling for Palestinians in the adjacent village of Al-Eizareya to turn down the loudspeakers making the call to prayer from the village’s mosques.

According to Israeli newspaper Haaretz, the Ma’aleh Adumim council has submitted a complaint to the “joint civilian coordinating committee that brings together Israeli and Palestinian authorities”. The complaint claims that the settlers are disturbed by the Adhan made from the village. The Palestinian Authority’s religious affairs office in Jerusalem will seek a solution to the alleged problem by telling mosques to turn down the volume of the loudspeakers.

Haaretz said that the Civil Administration has been informed of the issue and Ibrahim Za’atra, the head of the PA’s religious affairs office in the city confirmed that he had received the complaint. No official response has been made as yet.
