OSLO, (PIC)– The European network to support the rights of Palestinian Prisoners-UFree demanded the Israeli occupation authority (IOA) to immediately release Palestinian journalist Samer Allawi.

Allawi works as a reporter for Al-Jazeera satellite channel in Afghanistan and was detained on Tuesday on his way to Jordan after he visited his family in his hometown, Sebastia village in Nablus city.

UFree condemned this action as further proof that Israel does not respect freedom of opinion and expression, especially since Allawi arrived in the occupied Palestinian authorities on a private family visit.

UFree called on the IOA to necessarily treat Allawi properly and not to use any kind of physical and psychological pressure against him.

It also appealed to the international federation of journalists and reporters without borders to intervene with the IOA to secure his immediate release.

For its part, the forum of Palestinian journalists denounced the IOA for kidnapping Allawi after he finished a regular family visit to his hometown.

In a statement, the forum stated that this detention is part of Israel’s continued violation of media freedom and its harassment of journalists even when they work in other countries.

The forum held the IOA fully responsible for the safety of Allawi and expressed fear that his detention was part of Israel’s malicious intelligence activities, especially since it was not the first time this journalist visited his family in Nablus city.
