This program is funded by Otter Lake PTA as a one-time expense.

The art lessons all connect to a math, science, or a value-added unit and will allow students to explore elements and principles of art, cultural art, or art history while also connecting to STEM concepts.

Art is a natural companion to a STEM curriculum. In art we use many tools and processes to make things (engineering); we explore patterns, color theory, 2D and 3D shapes, and visual perspective (math); and we examine and understand both natural and human-made worlds as we create figures, landscapes, and still life or illustrate “big ideas” like hibernation, outer space, healthy living, and conservation (science). Through art-making these ideas and concepts become “real” as the students experience the art process and create an end product.

The art work created by the students in these lessons will be shared with the school community at the STEM fair this winter.

It is my hope that their art experiences will inspire and give them the confidence and curiosity to continue their creative development.
