Current techniques for the extraction and purification of dissolved organic matter (DOM) from seawater for research purposes recover at best only 30% of dissolved organic carbon. The latest method for the recovery of DOM from seawater, combining electrodialysis and SPE, is being implemented at our laboratory!

The first Workshop “Impact of atmospheric, terrestrial, and aquatic stressors in coastal ecosystems” was held on October 23, 2019, at the University of Aveiro. More than 50 participants, among researchers, postgraduate, and undergraduate students jointed together for one day to discuss the impact of different atmospheric, terrestrial, and aquatic multi-stressors threatening sensitive coastal areas. Topics discussed included effects of atmospheric organic particulate matter in climate and human health, microplastics, drivers of toxicity, oxidative stress, and salinization of soils in coastal marine environments. The Second Project Meeting was held after the Workshop, with the participation of AMBIEnCE team members. The aerosol sampling campaign is moving to Lisbon and microcosms for aerosol seeding experiments are being set-up. We are moving forward on Activities 1 to 4!
