The retailer is promoting the new boxes as cheaper than other veg delivery boxes on the market, which it said can cost upwards of £13.75.

The new £3 box of wonky veg is available online, and was introduced at a one-day promotional price of £1. The £5 box of British veg is available in stores, and Morrisons said it is the cheapest on the market, with the equivalent loose vegetables averaging £6.14 at the big four supermarkets.

The £5 box contains enough fresh British veg to feed a family of four for five days and includes eight seasonal vegetables such as carrots, onions, potatoes, cauliflower, and courgettes sourced from 60 UK growers.

The wonky veg box is not restricted to British produce, and has similar volumes produce that may also be misshapen, Morrisons said.

The launch follows a successful online trial earlier this year where the veg boxes sold at a rate of 2,000 in a week.

Vegetable buyer Andy Todd said: “We’ve listened to our customers who told us they want even more affordable veg. They are a great way for our customers to buy British or eat seasonally or feed the family for the week.”
