Bristol Palin’s new memoir, Not Afraid of Life: My Journey So Far, hit the bookstores yesterday. According to reviews, she transparently opens up about Levi, shares the circumstances surrounding her pregnancy, and even discusses Senator McCain’s daughter, Meghan.

Bristol will hold a book signing next week on June 29th at the Mall of America in Bloomington, MN.

Star Tribune reports:

Palin, 20, will appear from 6 to 8 p.m. June 29 at the mall’s rotunda, bringing her back to the Twin Cites, where her family burst onto the national scene when her mother, Sarah Palin, accepted the No. 2 spot on the Republican Party’s presidential ticket during the 2008 national convention in St. Paul.

[…]

In her memoir, the daughter of the former Alaska governor recounts the media frenzy surrounding her mother’s political ascension, her getting pregnant as a teenager and the public unfolding of her crumbling relationship with Levi Johnston, the baby’s father.

Today, via Twitter, Governor Palin showed her support for Bristol’s book and life-affirming message. The 140 character limitation made two tweets necessary:

Bristol’s Book: Shocking; Refreshing; Honest; INSPIRING! Perfect. Plus ‘Not Afraid of Life’ gives insight into how media can drive false….

…narrative. Spot on! (& she’s courageous to write what she wrote, warning about decisions/consequences in encouraging way, esp for teens!)

You can purchase Bristol’s book here to read about the courage of a young woman who embraced less than ideal circumstances and has a beautiful son as a result.

Ironically, right after Governor Palin’s tweet came to my cell phone, I received a text message from a friend with the surprising news that she’s expecting a baby boy. She asked me to pray that she will be able to let go of life as she knows it, the life of “being selfish with [her] time.” The timing, I thought, was interesting. Here was Governor Palin praising Bristol’s book, Not Afraid of Life, and here was my friend seeking guidance as she takes on the responsibilities of the new life growing within her.

Surely, bringing a child into the world can be a frightening thing, but, as I told my friend, I’m sure it’ll come with great joy as well. May we all demonstrate the courage to live out–and promote–a culture of life.
