Windows 8 will have a &#8216;metro&#8217; mode which won&#8217;t be an open platform.</p>
<p>There is much confusion over the issue which is normal. But there are too many people saying &#8216;nothing is going on here&#8217;. These are the most high profile people involved in PC gaming. It smells like Microsoft&#8217;s viral marketers are working overtime for the damage control. Windows 8 is to be the pot slowly warming and, I assume, Windows 9 will be the pot boiling.</p>
<p>These guys have nothing to gain by speaking out against the OS. They wouldn&#8217;t be doing it without a reason.</p>
