I recently found out about a strange little game for the PS3 called Tokyo Jungle</em></p>
<p><em> Now, it got Japan all crazy, being no1 in the sales charts for like 2+ weeks? Anyway, <a href="http://www.youtube.com/watch?v=ejBt-CWCv4E">here&#8217;s a trailer</a>.</em></p>
<p><em> It really reminded me of when videogames were always about new experiences. Instead of</em><br />
<em> FPSSHOOTER X or GRIMDARKRPG Z, it&#8217;s about&#8230; surviving animals in a wasteland rendition of</em><br />
<em> Tokyo. Humanity has gone extinct.</em></p>
<p><em> It&#8217;s all about survival in the wild, where you can select a large amount of animals. It&#8217;s</em><br />
<em> arcady with some light simulation (breeding!) and even a ridiculous Story mode. There&#8217;s also</em><br />
<em> a local COOP mode (sadly no online modes) and a ranking leaderboard.</em></p>
<p><em> Dunno if it&#8217;s telling of the state of the industry that a game about a bunch of animals</em><br />
<em> killing eachother got me hyped since ages, but here I am.</em></p>
<p><em> Oh hey, I got NSMB2 (too much money) and it&#8217;s actually fun, but it&#8217;s too much of a</em><br />
<em> Super Mario Bros: Lost levels to truly gain mass appeal. It&#8217;s just a literal rehash</em><br />
<em> with coins added.</em></p>
<p><em> Anyway, keep on trucking with yer blog!</em></p>
<p>OK&#8230; I can&#8217;t imagine this game ever selling in the West. This game is very modern though. It tries to be &#8216;realistic&#8217; and &#8216;gritty&#8217; but use animals instead in a post-apocalyptic setting. It seems more like a modern game but just a little funky.</p>
<p>When I think of the good old days, I think of games more like this&#8230;</p>
<span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center; display: block;"><iframe class="youtube-player" width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/An5d_GGPhuk?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent" allowfullscreen="true" style="border:0;" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation"></iframe></span>
<span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center; display: block;"><iframe class="youtube-player" width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/VJxPC2ZT288?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent" allowfullscreen="true" style="border:0;" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation"></iframe></span>
<span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center; display: block;"><iframe class="youtube-player" width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/pmh6056U0Nw?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent" allowfullscreen="true" style="border:0;" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation"></iframe></span>
<span class="embed-youtube" style="text-align:center; display: block;"><iframe class="youtube-player" width="640" height="360" src="https://www.youtube.com/embed/Ti1V0YMULGs?version=3&#038;rel=1&#038;showsearch=0&#038;showinfo=1&#038;iv_load_policy=1&#038;fs=1&#038;hl=en&#038;autohide=2&#038;wmode=transparent" allowfullscreen="true" style="border:0;" sandbox="allow-scripts allow-same-origin allow-popups allow-presentation"></iframe></span>
<p>This Tokyo Jungle game wouldn&#8217;t have even sold back in the 1980s. Gaming largely revolved around &#8216;cool protagonists&#8217; or even &#8216;mascots&#8217;. Do people want to be an ostrich?</p>
