When Iwata announced the VC, he said it was games you could play to feel young ‘for a little while’. People like myself see the VC as the main console since we believe the quality of Nintendo games have gone to hell since the 8-bit and 16-bit generations.

The popularity of the Virtual Console goes against Nintendo’s egos as well as debunks the ideology of Nintendo as an ‘integrated hardware, software platform’. We loved the NES, SNES, and for some the N64 because of the games. The console was just a box we bought in order to get to the game. The more Iwata fights this truth, the more he digs the grave of his career.
