I bought the 3DS at launch (foolishly) and thus paid the full $250 for
it. Since buying it, I’ve already bought a decent number of games on
the e-Shop’s Virtual Console (about 30 or so). After looking at the
games coming up and existing for the system and realizing that I only
cared about Mario Kart 7, I came to realize that the 3DS was a bad
investment. So naturally, I’ve been thinking about selling it.

But here’s the problem – do you think it’s worth it to lose the VC
games? If I were to sell it, I certainly wouldn’t get what I paid for
it. I very likely wouldn’t even get the new price. I’m not expecting
to even receive half of what I paid. Do you think I should just suck
it up and keep the system just for the VC games and Mario Kart, or
sell it and get the physical copies of the VC games on Amazon with the
profits?

I’m really not sure what to do here and was hoping that your opinion
could sway me one way or the other.

I’d keep the system. There may be a game coming out for the 3DS in the future you might like.

When it comes to selling old games and game consoles, I highly recommend not doing it. We all go through phases in our life when we need to change something. Most people who sell their game consoles regret it.

If you are young, money might seem to be very important. But as you get older, you realize how cheap gaming can be (and game consoles get cheaper the older they get). Someone in their 30s can buy a thousand NES consoles with seven hundred games released for it. But their original childhood NES with its handful of games they owned are priceless.

We become attached to our old game consoles and games. The more time goes by, the more revered it will become. I know people who have their Atari 2600s and various Atari computers almost like a shrine in storage. They pull it out every now and then. Interestingly, some have pulled them out for their children to play.
