SO happy that GoG is spreading to Mac! Now I can play Tyrian 2000 on my evil Mac hardware (and play it I did!). 🙂

Since the announcement wasn’t exactly a surprise with all the rumors swirling around, I was wondering how many games would be Mac-ready today. 50 is a pretty good! Originally I was a bit disappointed, as I thought all of the GoG games that were running through DOSBox on Windows would be made available immediately for Mac users, but once I saw that they were actually putting effort into the user experience on Mac, I felt a bit better as I was impressed by its quality. I’m very glad that they have made all of the free games available on both Windows and Mac, and I was happily surprised to see them add another free game! Unfortunately, the only games that I bought that are currently available for my platform are Wing Commander 1+2, but I’m looking forward to seeing more releases.

I didn’t really care about the new games they announced today. Glad to see more platformers on GoG though. I was really hoping to see a new games publisher revealed like Lucasarts or someone so that we got some info on some older games joining the service. I can’t say I really care about the indie games on GoG, so that was a bit disappointing.

Glad to see they have a great deal for Interplay games! Just sort of a shame I’m not really interested in many of them. Hopefully they’ll have a few more good deals in the coming weeks that include Mac-supported games! Also happy to hear Witcher II is coming to Mac, because although I’m not really one for RPG games, I’ve heard really good things about it, and more DRM-free games are always welcome.

So, ultimately, I’m left a little disappointed that there wasn’t really anything for me besides the Mac news, as great as it was. I’d feel a lot better if there were the promise of more older games coming up! Still hoping that someway, somehow, Commander Keen, Overkill, Cosmo’s Cosmic Adventure, and other games I had on DOS as a kid will come at some point. I will keep my fingers crossed!Yeah, I was disappointed there wasn’t any new publisher announced. At this point, all I want are the expansion packs for Alpha Centauri and Wing Commander 1 and 2. What was all this stupid hype about ‘bringing the magic’ or something?

The DOS games should be easy to bring over to Mac due to DosBox. I hope the Master of Orions and Master of Magic make their way over soon.

People ask, “Why expand to Mac and not Linux?” Well, no one uses Linux but more importantly that Mac users have considerable amount of money. Macs aren’t cheap.

I’ve been looking at the Interplay games. I own ZERO Interplay games so this deal is quite ripe for someone like me. Here are some incredible games:

-Descent 1, 2, 3
-Freespace 1
-Freespace 2 (I have this on Disc)
-Fallout 1, 2, Tactics (Interplay will lose their license to Fallout very soon)
-MDK 1 and 2 (These are much fun)
-Earthworm Jim 1 and 2 (Fun SNES like games. Heck, it was on the SNES.)
-Battle Chess (This is actually a Blizzard game. It was the first one they made. Simple but fun.)

Here are some of the games that everyone rates highly that I have no experience with:

-Giants (This game looks crazy in a good type of way.)
-Sacrifice (Everyone says this game is so awesome and wonderful. Maybe it is?)
-Castles 1 and 2 (Rated highly. Could be interesting.)
-Shogo (Rated highly as a simple but fun shooter)
-Screamer (Said to be the best in its series.)
-Kingpin (Some people say it is good.)
-MAX 1 and 2 (It can be both turn based or RTS. I’m a fan of both so I probably should check it out)

The rest of them probably aren’t that great but still seem interesting.

-Messiah (This game does seem interesting and different. Probably not that great.)
-VR Soccer (Not too many sports games on GoG. This might be fun.)
-Conquest for the New World (Is this a Civ like game? Hmm…)
-Evolva (WTF is this? Hahaha. Crazy game.)
-Super Hornet (A realistic jet flight simulator. They certainly don’t make these anymore. Could be interesting.)
-Earthworm 3d (Ewww, 3d.)
-Some RPGs. (Maybe for a rainy day sometime?)

I probably come across as some hardnosed gamer who only plays a small amount of games. The truth is that I love trying out new games, and I know you have to get yourself to take chances now and to try out new games. You can’t rely on a Gaming Message Forum to tell you what to do. So I make a point to try out new games now and then. For example, my GoG buying isn’t just games I’m familiar with. I did purchase Silver to try it out when it was on sale. It’s not that bad, but it is meh. I wouldn’t recommend it to others. But unless I take a chance, I won’t discover great new games, and I’ll get bored by gaming.

Just so you game developers reading on the outside know, we gamers do agonize about the decision to buy. We don’t just throw money and buy every game because we feel invested in playing everything we purchase. I’m figuring if I can find seven games from the Interplay deal that I REALLY WANT (as if I paid $5 for them), then I’d consider it a great deal.

While I decide, there is that Warsow game GoG just gave us for free. Going to go try it out!
