“why do I have to deal with buttons designed for small Japanese hands?”

What the hell is wrong with you? Seriously, how many times have you mentioned the 3DS‘ controls suck because of the term, “small Japanese hands”? Because this has lead me to think one of two scenarios with you:

1) As someone who’s played the 3DS and NOT had a problem with the controls and NOT because I have tiny hands, either you’re lying out your ass to make it seem like you have creditability or you have the most monstrously abnormal sized hands in the world.

And/or 2) You’re racist towards Japan. Seriously you mention the Japanese having tiny hands so much, I’m under the impression you are perpetuating some kind of ignorant stereotype.

Seriously, you wonder why I don’t try and argue with you intelligently in these emails when you dedicate blog posts to spouting ignorant crap like that?

This emailer is my biggest fan. As soon as the blog post goes up, he immediately emails. I love you too, emailer.

Apparently, the emailer forgot about the controller controversy with the original Xbox. Microsoft had to design a totally new controller just for Japan. Microsoft says, “It is because they have smaller hands over there.”

No one is going to disagree that Nintendo hardware design revolves around the Japanese. When I find the buttons too small, what else am I to blame?

At first, I thought this was a visual trick due to Nintendo handhelds and controllers getting larger and more bloated over time. Small buttons look smaller on larger hardware. But then I pulled out the original NES controller and the buttons are at least twice the size larger. So I’m not imagining it. What Nintendo is saying is that they want their consumers to only be children or Japanese. Look at the Wii controller. While the 1 and 2 buttons were pretty small, look at that giant A button. So Nintendo appears to be aware of the issue.

I would like to know why in the 80s and 90s we had consoles and controllers designed for each particular region but cannot have it today (despite being region locked). The NES and Famicom do not look anything alike. The controllers are also different. Different areas have different aesthetics. And they have different hand size.

Perhaps the emailer has little hands. Women will notice it. I’m not in the emailer’s position, but I sympathize for him.
