<?xml version="1.0" encoding="UTF-8" standalone="yes"?><oembed><version><![CDATA[1.0]]></version><provider_name><![CDATA[shape+colour]]></provider_name><provider_url><![CDATA[https://shapeandcolour.wordpress.com]]></provider_url><author_name><![CDATA[Jeremy]]></author_name><author_url><![CDATA[https://shapeandcolour.wordpress.com/author/shapeandcolour/]]></author_url><title><![CDATA[ubik: voxel.]]></title><type><![CDATA[link]]></type><html><![CDATA[<p>I&#8217;ve been a big time fan of <a href="http://www.nottoscale.tv/"><span style="color:#00ccff;">Not To Scale&#8217;s</span></a> London-based directing duo <a href="http://www.ubik.tv/"><span style="color:#33cccc;">Ubik</span></a> since  their insanely, perfectly, understatedly bang on <a href="https://shapeandcolour.wordpress.com/2008/04/14/mtv-switch-3650/"><span style="color:#0000ff;">video for MTV Switch, &#8220;3650.&#8221;</span></a> They were recently invited to create a short for the Holy Grail of animation conferences (and the place I&#8217;d like my cremains spread when I die, that&#8217;s how awesome it is&#8230;) <a href="www.motionographer.com"><span style="color:#00ffff;">Motionographer&#8217;s</span></a> <a href="http://f5fest.com/"><span style="color:#3366ff;">F5</span></a>. Working without a traditional brief,  but instead from the reference words &#8220;refresh, renewal, rejeuvenation&#8221;, Ubik created &#8220;Voxel&#8221;.</p>

<p>Opening inside an empty swimming pool, the short ripples open as pixellated, organic masses shapeshift and morph until they eventually overtake the man-made pool with their own aquatic world. It&#8217;s digital-organic and a crazy study in opposities: the pixel water seems hard yet falls from the sky with an exquisite softness, and coral, though pixellated, slowly blooms as open and free as the space it&#8217;s encompassing. It&#8217;s absolutely kick ass&#8230;</p>
