A Tale Of Two Short Movies

“All animals are equal, but some animals are more equal than others.” – Orwell

Movie # 1 : Murdering school children for not obsessively worrying about global warming. Hate crime/inciting violence against children. Largely ignored by the media.

Punishment : A pathetic, mealy-mouthed excuse for an apology “Many people found the resulting film extremely funny, but unfortunately some didn’t and we sincerely apologise to anybody we have offended.”

Movie # 2 : Streaming a video of Rutgers college roommate making out in the dorm room. Invasion of privacy. Lead story on Google news, because the roommate was gay.

Punishment : Press is demanding five years in jail. “If the story bears out, Dharun Ravi and Molly Wei are monsters.“

Obviously the first movie is a vastly more serious offense, but the press loves gays and hates skeptics.

College life is about pranks, sometimes harsh ones. No mentally healthy person commits suicide over them. Do you throw every prankster in jail? Everyone I knew as an undergraduate would have been locked up.
