From then until now, she has found clear evidence of a 30-year melting trend, which, she says, &#8220;cannot be easily explained away by natural variability.&#8221; But her work is even more notable for its findings about the speed of the change. Over this same 30 years, a relatively brief period, Stroeve has found that some 40 percent of the region&#8217;s summer (or more precisely, September) ice has melted.</em></p>

<p>I disagree. There is a clear relationship between PDO/ENSO and Arctic Ice.</p>

<p>We know that temperatures in Alaska are closely correlated with PDO/ENSO. Wouldn&#8217;t we expect western Arctic ice to be similarly affected?</p>
