A critic of a nationally-known Imam gets beaten up by thugs, and there’s word from Ottawa via a reputable journalist that when it comes to the whole Steyn/ Levant matter, some MPs might be afraid to speak out on this issue, afraid their families might be targeted. Welcome to Canada, 2008.
Freedom is not free, even in Canada, where the government tries to be all things to most people.
After all, even amidst the so-called moderate Muslim community– self-designated by the Osgood-4, there are warnings of things to come. At the Ryerson Forum on January 18, 2008, the pro-Palestinian speaker and ‘integrated activist’ Khaled Loufti Mouammar chatted away about many things. Near the end of his speech, however, was an only slightly veiled threat about what would happen if everyone didn’t agree to his victimological account of Muslim discontent. As in, “Nice country/ property/ cars you gots there– be a real shame if anything happened to it, ya know?“

..if you have this substantial minority feeling that they are not wanted, they are alienated, they are marginalized – how can you expect them to be loyal to the country and participate and produce, for the betterment of the country?

As if to say– ‘Won’t be our fault, but yours– we’re the victims, and you’ll be the victims of our victimhood if you don’t submit. Of course, we oppose violence,but.. those wild ‘n’ crazy non-specific rioting Yoots™ of no specific religion– whatacha gonna do?’
Well– sorry, Mo: we’re not offering unconditional surrender, or your backhanded warning and threats of violence. To borrow from Sir Winston Churchill: Who do you think you are? Who do you think WE are? We only riot over Stanley Cup wins, after all.
The war is here, in increasingly visible forms and moments: will we stand for who we are and what we believe in? Or will we surrender the world into a new dark age?
