~ SOME THINGS and people just go right ahead and make fun of themselves. So the omnipotentiaries of the University Of Calgary apparently hold the position that “The Canadian Charter Of Rights and Freedoms (the Charter) does not apply to universities.” UofC alum Ezra Levant puts it simply & best: “The University of Calgary is a disgrace”.. and comments ensued. SoCon weighs in here.

While no doubt the above is clueless legalese for “We Don’t Take Kindly To Any Of You Pro-Life Bigots ‘Round Here”, taken logically and morally and legally, it is to descend into utter absurdity.

Scary Pro-Life Bigots

For their umpty-thousands of tuition, UCalg students apparently lose such expendables as.. lessee.. freedom of conscience, freedom of religion, freedom of thought, freedom of belief, freedom of expression, freedom of the press and of other media of communication, freedom of peaceful assembly, and freedom of association; not to mention no right to participate in political activities and the right to a democratic form of government; loss of the right to enter and leave Canada, and to move to and take up residence in any province, or to reside outside Canada; no more rights of people in dealing with the justice system and law enforcement; and just go ahead and forget any equal treatment before and under the law, and equal protection and benefit of the law without discrimination, not to mention bilingual language rights, tha said Charter rights are guaranteed equally to men and women, and that other rights and freedoms in Canada are not invalidated by the Charter. Whew!

All because the mandarins and moral eunuchs of the most exalted University of Calgary said so, and absolute authority resides with them to abrogate any, all, or some rights of students (especially on alternate Tuesdays) should said minions get uppity on some topic or issue upon which all right-thinking persons have already spoken once and for all.

Off campus? Rights. On campus? No rights. UofC lawyers are still working on whether or not to decree the rights of visitors to campus similarly (or temporarily) invalid, depending on whether or not they have thoughts or words or deeds offensive to the correct-thinking consensus.

Pay up. Shut up. Do what you’re told. Absorb goodthink. Don’t upset the eternal status quo. So the confusions of the sexual and political rebellion of the flower children becomes the soft-fascism meant to imprison the minds and heats and bodies of the grandchildren of the revolutionaries, forever.

So the inward rot of the academy aids and abets those who would make us a compliant and obedient society, whether under Utopian Progressivism, or sharia law and Koranism. Says Ezra:

“There is a sickness of censorship in Canada, and its depressing to see that it has such deep roots in academia. One of censorship’s other foul manifestations is the human rights commission industry. But it seems to exist wherever you find politically correct, leftist, unaccountable government institutions. They’re the ones bullying peaceful political dissent. Boycott. Protest. Withhold donations and endowments. Profs? Stand tall for freedom, and your students. Alumni/ae? Fight back. If all else fails, vote with your wallets and feet, and find a real school, where the exercise of reason and discussion and vigorous debate about the abiding issues and questions of our time are allowed, not proscribed by academic and administrative weasels pretending to be humans. King’s College in Halifax, and Montreal’s Concordia University and others have a great-books core curriculum that requires real thought, learning, engagement, and the best of the academic Western Tradition.

Students, parents– do you really want to dump tens of thousands on a speech-coded conduct-patrolled sub-academic gulag like the UofC?

Fraudulent Fraudsters And Their Defraudings

~ IT’S ALWAYS BEST to tell the truth, and to call things by their proper name. That’s philosophy 101, and yer basic Aristotle: to say of things that are, that they are; and to say of things that are not, that they are not.

The world-wide financial crisis is due to a fraud. 30+ years of Democratic social engineering, vote-buying, and strong-arming banks into giving super-risky mortgages to people who would likely default. Then banks and other investors bought into the risky mortgage futures. Then the big castle of cards began to collapse of its own weight. And when the American economy got chest-pains, other national economies world-wide are having minor heart-attacks.

Now, Democrats are perpetuating an even bigger fraud– the biggest fraud in history– to cover up and supposedly repair their first frauds. The Stimulus. It’s a bizarre mess of pork, and even it’s defenders are aware that the American public is waking up– hence the super hyperbolic language of “crisis becoming a catastrophe” coming from the O-val O-ffice, to try and ram through the fraud on top of the other fraud, to steal from the next 30 years of taxpayers and companies. Wall Streeters profited– of a time– from the big lie, and are also complicit.

In Dante’s Inferno, the fraudulent are found in Circle 8 of Hell. Fraud is a malicious misuse of reason to victimize others with whom the offender holds a special bond of trust. The shades of the politically fraudulent are found in a river of boiling pitch, tormented by clever devils. The particular form of torment is not arbitrary: as their deliberate treachery and trust-breaking immersed their victims– and all of society and its bonds of trust– into the boiling misery of disorder and betrayal and mistrust.

American politics is now led by someone with a vested interest in “remaking the economy”, and not with unmasking and reversing the cause and effects of the original frauds, perpetrated by his own party partly for racial reasons. The perps of the original fraud– many of whom now hold even more power in the new administration– will continue to maliciously misuse their reason and continue to break trust with the American people and their electors. When confronted with the dangers of the Mortgage Fraud, and given opportunities to fix things, Democrats resolutely kept the unfaith, and led America down the road of betrayal and bankruptcy.

POTUS Dozed, Kentucky Frozed

~ KENTUCKY? Them thar’s Redneck Red-State hillbilly inbred central, i’n’ni’t? Gya-huck! Bitter Bible-hugging gun-clingers; fried chicken; Deliverance; banjoes and barefoot kids.

The thing is, dehumanizing a region and its people because they are politically incorrect, or because your new self-interested POTUS has mocked and bashed the stereotypical rural conservative as insufficiently American and unenlightened (i.e., unlike his smug self)– such dehumanization and snickering can have real-world consequences. Writes blogger Daily Bayonet: “Perhaps if President Obama was as interested in fried chicken, bourbon and horses as he is in tax cheats the poor Kentuckians would get some relief.”

Imagine if self-satisfied and soggy Seattle or Long Island had been hit with a debilitating icestorm, hundreds injured and dozens killed, a million without power in freezing cold, lots of infrastructure and property damage. Many are still without power, water, and heat. Or if a solidly Democratic-voter area was hit with similar damage and losses. Prez O would have been all over it, CNN would have done up a giant disaster graphic with it own mini-theme music.

Instead, this Thursday past: “Obama declares disaster in Kentucky ice storm.” One local Dem bent the knee unto POTUS– “State Rep. Brent Yonts, D-Greenville, applauded Obama for acting quickly on the major disaster declaration”. Super Obama to the rescue, before it even happened! Not so much.

Except: this and other stories don’t give you a timeline. The offending storm? Tuesday, January 27th. The speedy POTUS declaration? Not until Thursday, February 5th. No, not Thursday of the same week– no, not the day it was known to have hit hard; no, not the three days later timeline for which President Bush and FEMA were crucified over for Hurricane Katrina.

Actually, in that case, President Bush declared a Federal state of emergency for Louisiana on Saturday, and on Sunday Bush declared a state of emergency in Alabama and Mississippi, and a major disaster in Florida (Katrina hit Sunday night). Even with the less predictable nature of an ice storm– TEN DAYS later until Obama declares disaster in Kentucky ice storm?

Ten Freaking Days

No last Thursday Oval Office TV-to-the-nation (“Please give via the Red Cross, Kentuckians are in our thoughts & prayers” type thing), no early pre-approval for FEMA and emergency funds (think Bush in most recent U.S. disasters) to expedite funds, relief, paperwork, and recovery. 10 days later, and still no Obama trip into the disaster-zone.

Looks like that Ivy-league lookin’-down his nose snob Obama done fergit a detail or two about his alleged Prezzy role model, Abe Lincoln: that little log cabin where the unedumacated baby Abe was borned? You got it: Sinking Spring Farm, in southeast Hardin County… Kentucky.

A better man than Obama, Lincoln committed his presidency to the path that would lead to freedom and equality for all Americans, even though that battle would cost him his health, and his life.

Partly-black part-American Obama may have benefited from that sacrifice, yet he doesn’t seem truly committed to the idea that he is the servant of the American people, not they his; and that his service is not only particular classes, colours, or ideologies. That’s why– at least up to this point– Obama only has it in him to become a good president, but not a great president.

The ten-day-late President? No, the media-lapdogs will not tell that tale, or compare Obama’s half-assed efforts with a manageable crisis, versus the world-class disaster of Katrina.

Inauguration? Political battles? Defending the ‘stimulus’ pork-bill or his crooked nominees? Nope– a true hero sees a disaster, and drops the rest to go and deal with that crisis, until he has done all within his power to help stricken Americans. That would reveal a lot more than another photo-op, another YouTube ‘conversation’, another tightly-controlled press conference.

Imagine the American President and other high-powered leaders handing out blankets, sitting with cold nad miserable folks in shelters, congratulating doctors, nurses, emergency responders, and National Guard members. Standing with ordinary Americans, and not aloof, away, belated, munching on those tasty $100 Wagyu steaks, and off playing hookey with the Missus on Tuesday the 3rd, so bored and irritated with all that pesky big-boy White House stuff.
