~ AS WE’VE MENTIONED BEFORE, we’re not big fans of sometime white supremacist Marc Lemire, but we will fight for his right to say wrong-headed things. This just in:

“I have determined that Mr. Lemire contravened s. 13 of the Act in only one of the instances alleged by Mr. Warman, namely the AIDS Secrets article. However, I have also concluded that s. 13(1) in conjunction with ss. 54(1) and (1.1) are inconsistent with s. 2(b) of the Charter, which guarantees the freedom of thought, belief, opinion and expression. The restriction imposed by these provisions is not a reasonable limit within the meaning of s. 1 of the Charter. Since a formal declaration of invalidity is not a remedy available to the Tribunal (see Cuddy Chicks Ltd. V. Ontario (Labour Relations Board), [1991] 2 S.C.R. 5), I will simply refuse to apply these provisions for the purposes of the complaint against Mr. Lemire and I will not issue any remedial order against him (see Nova Scotia (Workers’ Compensation Board) v. Martin, 2003 SCC 54 at paras. 26-7).”

So– Section 13 of the HRC legislation is inconsistent with the Canadian Charter. Good news. Hurray for this judge. ~

~ EXCEPT FOR GRADE 5, and then high school & above, I was a poor student. In grade seven, I was even tested for retardation. Turns out I was near the top of the class in IQ.

So when I see experts try to medicalize or medicate kids (usually boys) for being rambunctious, I get irritable.

(1) Modern school is touchy-feely, and designed for girls, or quiet, compliant boys.

(2) Many kids are raised by TV, DVD, and X-Box. Short attention-spans-r-us.

(3) Many children in Western society come from divorced or step-families, and day-care/ baby-sitting in young childhood. All of these can create emotional distress, lack of attachment, and personality problems.

(3) Modern schools teach politically correct pablum, pro-gay, pro-recycling, pro-touchy-feely psycho-babble, and a lot of lowest-common denominator stuff. My own boys find it tiresome, lame, and that they are not supposed to question it.

Thus, psychologizing or prescribing Ritalin to try and address deep foundational problems in the lives of children mask lives shaped by adult choices we don’t care to question. Modern schools are the result of ‘child-centred’ fact-lite expert theories, most of which have lead to a drop in learning, challenge, and achievement. Kids are a lot of work, and electronics are an easy opiate. Marrying the right person for the right reasons, and raising your kids yourselves undercuts ideas of women’s autonomy, and our impatient desire for comfortable lifestyles. All of these factors have real-life effects on children, whether we like the consequences of our choices, or not.

Finally, boys are naturally more energetic, go-go, award-oriented & competitive, and aggressive. To the modern mind, that’s ‘testosterone poisoning’– to the real world, it’s just the glory of male human nature versus female human nature, and it’s not merely a social construct, despite the yawpings of Marxist intellectuals and wymyn theorists.

That’s my thoughts on the matter. ~

~ THE KENNEDY ‘FUNERAL’– As a clergyman who’s worked in several parishes, I blame modern Roman Catholic and Anglican conduct for gawd-awful marriages and funeral customs and ugly/ lame/ juvenile worship services. Funerals never recovered from the Princess Diana/ Elton John debacle.

Too often, people bring bad ideas and TV-based worship-notions to church. Doglike, some people imagine they must mark it as their own for it to be real; so the nearly identical ‘new ideas’ of weddings, or the notion that everyone should be tearfully eulogized for all their good points at funerals.

Mind you, that’s not a sermon, nor Christian, nor spiritually healthy.

So when I hear of the Kennedy-worship at his so-called funeral mass, with schmaltzy sentimentality, a socialist speech in place of a eulogy, and then endless eulogies on top of it– with no mention of heaven-hell, judgement, mortality, sin, the cross & resurrection of Jesus, or even how in a life like Kennedy’s, God’s love and power is still operative despite sin and the temptations of power? It’s a failure of nerve and imagination, and a kow-towing to worldly power which is the temptation of all of us, but should be different in the life of the Church.

The reality is that rich and powerful and influential people are accountable before God for their opportunities, used or squandered. Those to whom much is given, much is expected, says Jesus. To not tell a church full of the important such plan spiritual truths? And that God’s love is still greater than our sins and failings? Why, that’s a terrible, terrible waste. ~

If your beliefs don’t measure up to the radical standard, you are politically incorrect. Your thoughts don’t belong, are ruled out of court.
