~ SO IF THE H1N1 SWINE Flu is seriously bad, we’re in real trouble locally.
The other day, 1000 people stood outside in the late afternoon chill trying to get into the the local firehall, some waiting up to 5 hours for the Swine Flu clinic inside to slowly process folks (registration, shot, 15 minutes wait for adverse reaction). A lot of those folks didn’t get in.
So the next morning, as I got the regular flu shot, I asked my GP doc Whisky Tango Foxtrot? Turns out it’s SNAFU.
Instead of doing the at-risk population of kids through the schools, then most other folks via their doctors (no registration needed), with a mop-up of clinics for others, there’s a long-waiting line clinic thing, with no shots presently available at the GP’s office, nor school clinics. Whisky Tango Foxtrot? This is bass-ackwards, putting kids and young families at risk, and making clear that in case of a more serious civil, bioterror or other emergency, we want better brains running things.
The local doctors are being largely kept out of the loop for some reason.
D+, and trending downwards.
And for all the sceptics, given my general rotten health-luck, I’m bloody likely to get uterine cancer, let alone avoid Swine Flu.

Speaking as a happily married man, I say hurray for them, of all sorts and manners, and in mystical meaning, art, the Bible, and culture.
However, endless warm-fuzzy Breast Cancer propaganda? Zzzz.
Consider: if abortion and birth-control pills and hormone treatments and less breast-feeding and silicon implants and fewer kids and nuclear materials and chemicals in food & the environment have anything to do with the rise of it, yes it’s terrible and all: but it’s a pick your consequences thing, right? Revenge of The Boobage, when not used as required, chemically treated, or exposed to poisons and abuse. Our bodies are environments, too– even if we want to pretend we’re masters of our physical, moral, and spiritual destinies. The boobs know better.
And men get sick, too: no such glut of cuddly propaganda or massive health spending. Can you imagine little prostate magnets and t-shirts and car antenna foam things? Dancing prostates in a commercial? “Turn your head and cough” jingles for public education?
Into the bin, too, the idea that all folks with breast cancer are all chipper happy brave fighters and all, keen to share their heart-warming stories in a women’s magazine. The ones I’ve pastored were just bloody glad to be done with it, put it behind them, get the prosthesis, and live life. Others? Dead. Still others? Sad, feeling maimed, and making the best of it.
That we’re doing some good for sick folks while studiously ignoring possible cases is sad, and destructive of lives: just like feminism is the enslavement of the modern female mind, the sexual revolution and contraception is the enslavement and punishment of female bodies. That’s the rest of the story.

Now, social conservative that I am, I agree that the balance between law and license is rather out of whack in the West– and that the social environment might be improved by better laws. Now, those laws are grounded on the legal tradition of Rome and Greece, and the spiritual foundations of Judaeo-Christianity. Islam is rather more like Mormonism– a kind of social conservatism, grafted onto a crazy religion.
In any case, the nitwits who write to me with the “See? you suck!” argument get it backwards– sin and evil don’t go away with sharia-police, beating women, and forcing them to wear bags on their head. As in the socially conservative anti-porn totalitarian regimes of Nazi Germany and Societ Russia, such lesser evils do not justify a greater evil. The rpbolem of evil within the human heart, and of evils in the world is not solved by such simplistic assertions as “Convert!”
After all, Jesus promises crosses for his followers, suffering in love, and life rising from death. No magic panacaea, or instant fixit.. redeeming the evil within and without by God’s own life shared with us.
As for dying, we all must. But there’s no need to be evil and nasty about it, Iddddd.
Islam: where we cheerfully massacre infidels and bystanders, but that whole “killing for no good reason” thing is kept on the down-low (or at least out of the news, or blamed on something else). Good luck with that advertising campaign.

~ A NEWS-AGGREGATING blog is neither fish nor fowl, internetishly speaking. Back in the day, I remember being told that such work wasn’t real blogging. The journalist in question meant well, but he didn’t get it.
News aggregating like I do it? (1) Introduces good websites to other bloggers; (2) summarizes a load of news; (3) surfs a wide range of sites; (4) keeps folks abreast of stories in a quick and simple way; (5) shapes the news, insofar as journalists, other websites, and the general public use the blog as a resource.
Nothing sweeter for this blogger/ aggregator to see good blogs and/ or new websites getting much-deserved attention via bloggers reading my site.
The other thing is that even if my commentary causes brain hemorrhages and a decline in civilization, the sensible and best of the best links to good commentary more than makes up for it all. Plus, as I read good stuff, I get better at adding my own commentary and summaries to news issues.
