There’s this idea that if something’s free, it’s probably not worth getting. In the case of Audacity, this simply isn’t true. For sound editing, it was my program of choice while developing Puzzledorf.
You can cut sounds up, move bits around, create special effects or make the pitch higher or lower. It’s also good for making music or sound effects quieter by changing the master sound level. It only takes a few seconds to change in Audacity. I also made entirely new sounds for Puzzledorf by editing old sound effects and playing around with them.
