Check out my June 28, 2008 post here re: Damsel Patterns (Proven & Experimental…copy them) If you ever need the pattern or recipe, let me know. Most often I don’t bother with the standard format of pattern: hook, thread, etc. Most flies are self evident on how to tie. If they are not like the Vladi Worm or the Polish Weave, I include the pattern or how to pictures. The colors are going to run the usual green, brown, ginger. Sizes are size 10-12 or smaller with a 3x shank. These patterns are fun to tie and are highly productive! Would a small, slender Woolly Bugger work…yes, but these bug eyed creations are the equal of the Bugger along the shoreline. Retrieve out and work toward shore…or work one parallel to the shore/weed line. They are not weighted.
For some reason my labels are not showing for each picture once published…so top to bottom: Distressed Damsel, Cope’s Damsel and Georgi’s Damsel. I tied the three but did not originate Copes or Georgi’s. The Distressed Damsel is an off shoot of Cope’s and Georgi’s combined. Both of these patterns have been so successful for me since my discovering them in Bend, Or and Logan Lake, B.C. respectively…I admittedly I am way behind in tying green ones…I have gone through so many…hint.
