Evident in all this is the unknown, unanticipated for factors that influence events. Something tells me this dam removal (good at first and second glance) will have unforeseen effects down the road…not anticipated. Such often is the case with ODFW’s good intentions. A dam removal is a big event in the NW. Good affects will come from this and I hope the guides’ hardships are buffered by some means. (h/t PP)

“For me, the melancholy of not catching a steelhead isn’t a big deal — it’s something that can be cured with a cheeseburger and a cold beer. But for local fishing guides it’s a much more serious and frustrating problem.”

“The frustration reached a head in Jackson County earlier this month. About a dozen guides filed notices saying they intend to sue the county due to lost wages caused by the unfishable muddy water in August and September, and that they were seeking some of the $5 million federal stimulus grant used for the dam removal…..That threat drew an angry response from Jackson County Commissioner C.W. Smith, who told the Mail Tribune that the fishing guides needed to “man up” and that he was “sick and tired of people looking for deep pockets.” Muddied Waters by Zach Urness in Grants Pass Daily Courier @ ERG
