A late fumble by star QB Elijah Brooks ended the hopes of a late fourth quarter comeback from the Knights. The Phoenix had kept up with their hosts up until the fourth quarter, before taking the lead on a 25 yard pass from Matt Kelly to rookie Drew Hart.
The two teams had traded touchdowns all afternoon, Matt Kelly throwing for 405 yards, 4 touchdown passes and no interceptions, whilst Kinghts QB Elijah Brooks accounted for 282 in the air and 4 touchdowns. Brooks also had three turnovers- 2 INTs and one fumble.
Defensively, the Knights held Marshall Knight to 88 yards on 22 carries and one touchdown, the Phoenix held McKenzie and Brooks to 99 running yards combined.
When Ricardo Fernandez missed the conversion, leaving it 34-28, it seemed as though the Knights had it in their sights- a converted touchdown to win. On third and long, Brooks took off to give his team hopes of advancing, Moe Williams knocked the ball out of his hands and Adelphia’s Omar Bird picked it up. Game Over.
