*A Thousand Years of Dreams*
The Story:
You are Kaim Argonar a soldier working for the kingdom of Uhra, while Kaim is in a war with another Kingdom a Meteor crashes in and destroys everything, but Kaim seems to rise from the ashes it is here you find out that Kaim is immortal and has been alive for 1000 years. Soon after the Meteor incident Kaim receives an assignment From Gongora a member of the council of Uhra to investigate a place called Grand Staff. Eventually Kaim and his group find out that Gongora is looking to seize Uhra for himself and Kaim and his group must stop him.
The Gameplay:
Lost Odyssey is a Traditional turn based JRPG, the battle system is very simple you have physical skills and magic spells but there is also something called a ring system where if you hold the RT and time your attack you can add an additional effect to you attack this can be a lot of different things depending on what ring you have equipped, you can also buy different equipment from vendors like most RPG games and there is also a world map. Another feature is the ” immortal ” system, there are a few characters in the game who are Immortals these are characters who can be revived automatically after a few turns in battle but the more interesting thing about the Immortals is the way they learn skills basically they can learn any skills that other characters learn for example Kaim who is a physical character can learn magic spells and other skills. A last thing to add is the 1000 years of dreams which follows Kaim and the adventures and stories that he has experienced these are beautifully written and some even made me cry I personally loved this feature and it was one of the most enjoyable things in the game.
The Sound:
Lost Odyssey has the best soundtrack ever created in my opinion the composer Nobuo Uematsu who composed the music for the older Final Fantasy games and this soundtrack is by far his best, the diversity is absolutely incredible there are lot’s of different tracks in the game, some are very soft and beautiful, and others are very Powerful sounding with Choirs and more, The stand out tracks are, A sign of hope and Howl of the departed. The voice acting is well done only Gongora came off as a bit cheesy so overall the Voice acting is pretty good.
The Graphics:
Lost Odyssey is a very pretty game especially for 2008 the characters look very nice but the environments are stunning there is a good variety such lush forests and dark caves there is also great enemy designs and The CGI cutscenes look great as well overall the graphics look incredible.
Lasting Appeal:
Lost Odyssey is a pretty long game it took me about 50 hours and i hadn’t completed the side quests and other things i needed to do, there is also a new game plus feature if your interested.
Final Thoughts:
Overall I think Lost Odyssey is a very Traditional RPG but one of the best the story, simple gameplay and Soundtrack make it a must own for Xbox 360 who are looking for a good JRPG it’s just a shame that it wasn’t released on other consoles.
