Mesut Özil spoke with Marca yesterday in his first interview outside of the club. Marca sometimes asks really boring, tricky and or/stupid questions, but it’s good to see that Mesut knows how to be diplomatic and not fall into their trap! Here are the more interesting parts of the interview; he’s very confident, isn’t he? I hope he has another great game tonight!

Q: How are you feeling before your first Champions League game with Real Madrid? Are you a bit anxious about the debut?

A: No, I’m feeling calm. I’ve played important games with other teams before. What is true is that I waiting anxiously for the Champions League to start. We have an important game in a great stadium and anyone would want to participate in this.

Q: I don’t know if you know that Madrid has failed in the Champions League in the last five years. Do you feel an extra responsibility because of that?

A: No, we all know that, but both the players and the coach are convinced that we can get very far in all competitions this year and we’re going to give it everything we’ve got. We’re going to put in a maximum effort in each game for that. I guarantee this.

Q: What would you say to the fans after the whistles against Osasuna? Do you expect them to support the team from the kickoff?

A: Our fans always support us and want their team to win. I’m happy to have such great fans and I’m sure they’ll help us against Ajax. I’m sure of it.

Q: The fans left the Bernabéu on Saturday extremely pleased with your performance. Do you feel the affection of the fans?

A: It was a source of pride to hear the applause of the fans. The fans are helping me a lot, and also my teammates. I always give my best on the field and I hope that the fans will be happy with how I play against Ajax and because their team won.

Q: How are you feeling after two Liga games? You look comfortable out there…

A: I enjoy playing with this team and that comes out on the field. Mourinho and all my teammates are making things easy for me.

Q: If you had to choose between winning the Champions or the Liga, which would you choose?

A: I can’t choose one, because I want to win everything. We’re going for all the trophies, that’s our obligation. I came here to play for this team and to win titles. Every player on this team wants to win them. We have a squad with a lot of talent, youth and one of the best coaches in the world, if not the best. We have to use all of our advantages on the field and we’re going to go all out to win everything.

Q: A message for the fans?

A: Have confidence in your players and stay calm, because the results will come. I’m sure of it.
