On one side, that of the Iberian 2018 candidacy, we had Luis Figo, Fernando Hierro, Vicente del Bosque and a very clean-shaven Iker Casillas. Cristiano Ronaldo was scheduled to come along for the ride as well, but his ankle injury prevented his participation. He didn’t have permission from Mou to attend, since that would mean he would miss two physiotherapy sessions.

The Iberian bid will face competition from England, which was represented by their ambassador, David Beckham. I’m not feeling David’s hair! And to complete the “galáctico” (though I hate that word) trio, Zinedine Zidane, the official ambassador for Qatar’s 2022 bid for hosting rights.

The winners will be announced at 16h local time today. Hopefully Spain and Portugal will get their early Christmas present of a successful bid, and we’ll get our early Christmas present of seeing Becks and Iker reunited (and it feels so good)!
