ONE.  LOS ARROCES DE SEGIS.

– restaurant specializing in paella that is the favorite of many Castilla players.  Located at C/ Infanta Mercedes 129.

TWO.  DE MARÍA.

– chain of restaurants specializing in grilled meat, Argentine-style.  The restaurant is located at Calle Felix Boix 5, although there are grills all over the city.  A favorite of all the Argentine players on the squad as well as Alfredo di Stéfano (although other non-Argentine players have also been known to go), and the Garay-Higuaín families used to eat together.  Full list of locations here.

THREE, FOUR.  MESÓN TXISTU, ASADOR DONOSTIARRA.

– favorite restaurants of Madrid’s players, both past and present – you can see pictures of all of them in the restaurants (it’s a fun game to see how many of the famous people you recognize in the photos, which are all over the walls).  David Beckham also comes here to eat every time he returns to Madrid.  Both specialize in Basque cuisine, especially meats.  Raúl would go partridge hunting, have Mesón Txistu prepare whatever he caught and invite his teammates to come eat.  Mesón Txistu is located at Plaza Angel Carbajo 6 and the Asador Donostiarra at Calle Infanta Mercedes 79.

FIVE, TWENTY.  KABUKI.

– Japanese restaurant that is the favorite of Cristiano, Álvaro Arbeloa, Xabi Alonso, Jordi Codina… There are two in Madrid, one at Avda. Presidente Carmona 2 (labeled “five” on the map) and one at the Hotel Wellington on Velázquez 6 (labeled “twenty”).

SIX.  ESTADIO SANTIAGO BERNABÉU.

– inaugurated in 1947 and named after the former president of Real Madrid, it’s the holy temple for madridistas and of course where Madrid plays their home games.  The exact address is Avenida de Concha Espina 1 (corner with the Paseo de la Castellana).  You can take a tour of the stadium and trophy room every day of the year except for Dec. 25 and Jan. 1, with special hours on game days (gate 20).  Tickets can also be bought here, depending on availability (at the #10 window next to gate 7).  More information here.

There is also a Madrid store located within the stadium, as well as four restaurants:  Zen Market, Asador de la Esquina, Puerta 57 and Real Café Bernabéu.  All have impressive views of the stadium interior.

SEVEN.  LA LATINA.

– a neighborhood in the old part of Madrid (and one of my favorites).  Iker has gone on the record as saying that you could find him here on Sunday mornings.  It has lots of cool restaurants and cafes and is the perfect place to spend a lazy morning or afternoon talking and people watching.

– one of Xabi’s favorite restaurants, Casa Julián de Tolosa, is located at Cava Baja 18.  Xabi likes the red peppers and steak there (Tolosa is his hometown).

EIGHT.  CALLE FUENCARRAL.

– a street full of interesting bars, restaurants and shops, including the Mercado de Fuencarral.  Pepe has said he likes hanging out in this area.

NINE.  PACHÁ.

– a nightclub that has become an institution in Madrid.  Where Iker and Sara Carbonero were alleged to have first hooked up.  Located at Calle de Barceló 11.

TEN.  TOTÒ E PEPPINO.

– the pizza place that provides the pizzas for Madrid’s players after their games.  The guys are also known to drop by the restaurant.  Located at Calle Fernando VI 29.

ELEVEN.  CIBELES.

– plaza where Madrid celebrates all their titles (Atlético celebrates at the Plaza de Neptuno, down the street).  The atmosphere is incredible when Madrid wins a title, both the night of the game, and later on / the following day when the players arrive.  Players are no longer allowed to climb on the statue of Cibeles in the middle of the plaza.

– there are a café and a restaurant in the nearby Palacio de Cibeles (the wedding cake like building housing Madrid’s City Hall and the former headquarters of the post office), and both have terraces with great views of Cibeles and up towards Gran Vía/Alcalá.  The café is on the second floor and the restaurant, Palacio Cibeles, is on the sixth.

TWELVE.  BARRIO DE SALAMANCA.

– one of the best neighborhoods in Madrid proper, home to the most posh shops.  Kaká, Metzelder and Xabi used to live here (Xabi has since moved to the adjoining neighborhood of El Viso).  I’ve personally spotted Iker, Becks & Zidane around here.  Xabi likes to take walks in the nearby Retiro park.  The first Abercrombie & Fitch store in Spain is (unfortunately) located in this neighborhood, at the Plaza de Marqués de Salamanca 5.

THIRTEEN, FOURTEEN, FIFTEEN.  THE SHOPS.

– Dolce & Gabbana – favorite store of the Madrid boys, with Benzema, Cristiano, Kaká and a host of former players all seen shopping here.  Located at Calle Ortega y Gasset 14.

– Louis Vuitton – where all the Madrid boys get their luggage, including make-up bags, as well as other items.  Located in the barrio de Salamanca at Calle Ortega y Gasset 17 (almost across the street from Dolce & Gabbana).  Zizou has starred in a series of ads for LV.

– Gucci – a hop and a step from the Dolce & Gabbana and LV stores, located at Calle de Serrano 49.  Cristiano probably already owns every single belt available in the store, and has fought with Sergio for them.

SIXTEEN.  EL TULIPÁN.

– restaurant specializing in Asturian cuisine, located at Calle General Diaz Porlier 59.  A favorite of the Castilla boys.

SEVENTEEN.  SALÓN LORENA MORLOTE.

– famous hairstylist who counts Sergio Ramos among her clientele.

EIGHTEEN.  EKSEPTION/eks.

– stores where you can find a variety of designer brands, some of which are exclusive in Spain (Ekseption stocks the higher-end brands and eks the lower-end brands).  Located in the barrio de Salamanca at Calle de Velázquez 28.  The store selling off-season items is located across the street from the Bernabéu at Concha Espina 14.  If you want to stalk certain Madrid wives/girlfriends, this is the place to go.

NINETEEN.  EL PARAGUAS.

– Asturian restaurant that is the favorite of Álvaro Arbeloa and Xabi Alonso (Xabi likes the codidos and the fabes), located at Calle Jorge Juan 16.

TWENTY.  KABUKI.

– see number five.

TWENTY ONE.  LA MANDUCA DE AZAGRA.

– Xabi highly recommends the vegetables at this Basque restaurant on Calle Sagasta 14.

NOT PICTURED.  LAS VENTAS.

– slightly more to the east than the map shows is Madrid’s bullfighting ring, Las Ventas, located at Calle de Alcalá 237.  You can almost always find Sergio Ramos here during bullfighting season, and Iker Casillas and Miguel Torres occasionally.
