You know, it isn’t hard to see why many people like the Grand Thief Auto series: full of action, drama, grit, and of course a very large city to cause chaos in. It is also no surprise there are a lot of GTA clones out there trying to outdo them in form or another (my personal fav is Saint’s Row). Sleeping Dogs is one such title on paper, however, and I can’t put my finger on why, when I saw an action I was greatly impressed. Maybe it was because of the main character who’s an undercover cop trying to take down the infamous criminal organization: the Triads, and must walk the line in order to do so. Or maybe because of the highly visceral melee combat with environmental finishers. It could possibly be because of the setting which is Hong Kong, a very living city, full of things to do. Heck maybe because Square Enix has a hand in it or the fact that is look like an asian movie (which are very good films most of the time); whatever the reason Sleeping Dogs looks like a winner to me – all that left is to prove I’m right on August.
