<p>In addition to John’s theme of love, best described in his epistles, John may well have been attempting to communicate the importance of glorifying God in his writings on the life of the Savior.   Jesus Christ is our perfect example of how to be glorified in God.</p>
<h2>I             Before the World Was</h2>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">The Savior had glory, even as the Son of God, before he entered into this world.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">1 IN the beginning was the Word, and the Word was with God, and the Word was God.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">2 The same was in the beginning with God.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">3 All things were made by him; and without him was not any thing made that was made.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">4 In him was life; and the life was the light of men.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">14 And the Word was made flesh, and dwelt among us, (and we beheld his <strong>glory</strong>, the <strong>glory</strong> as of the only begotten of the Father,) full of grace and truth.</p>

<h2>II            Beginning His Ministry</h2>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">His disciples could see, and behold, and understand that glory.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">11 This beginning of miracles did Jesus in Cana of Galilee, and manifested forth his <strong>glory</strong>; and his disciples believed on him.</p>

<h2>III           His Father is His Source of Glory</h2>
<p>The glory came from honoring and obeying his Father.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">19 Then answered Jesus and said unto them, Verily, verily, I say unto you, The Son can do nothing of himself, but what he seeth the Father do: for what things soever he doeth, these also doeth the Son likewise.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">20 For the Father loveth the Son, and sheweth him all things that himself doeth: and he will shew him greater works than these, that ye may marvel.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">21 For as the Father raiseth up the dead, and quickeneth <em>them;</em> even so the Son quickeneth whom he will.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">22 For the Father judgeth no man, but hath committed all judgment unto the Son:</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">23 That all <em>men</em> should <strong>honour</strong> the Son, even as they <strong>honour</strong> the Father.  He that <strong>honour</strong>eth not the Son <strong>honour</strong>eth not the Father which hath sent him.</p>

<h2>IV          Not Men</h2>
<p>His glory did not come from the honors of men.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">39 ¶ Search the scriptures; for in them ye think ye have eternal life: and they are they which testify of me.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">40 And ye will not come to me, that ye might have life.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">41 I receive not <strong>honour</strong> from men.</p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;">48 Then answered the Jews, and said unto him, Say we not well that thou art a Samaritan, and hast a devil?</p>

<p style="padding-left:30px;">55 Yet ye have not known him; but I know him: and if I should say, I know him not, I shall be a liar like unto you: but I know him, and keep his saying.</p>

<h2>V           Glory is First Ascribed to the Father</h2>
<p>He ascribed all honor he received first to his Father, and only through his Father to himself.  His Father’s honor and glory was the only thing he was worried.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">1 NOW a certain <em>man</em> was sick, <em>named</em> Lazarus, of Bethany, the town of Mary and her sister Martha.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">2 (It was <em>that</em> Mary which anointed the Lord with ointment, and wiped his feet with her hair, whose brother Lazarus was sick.)</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">3 Therefore his sisters sent unto him, saying, Lord, behold, he whom thou lovest is sick.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">4 When Jesus heard <em>that,</em> he said, This sickness is not unto death, but for the <strong>glory</strong> of God, that the Son of God might be <strong>glorified</strong> thereby.</p>

<h2>VI          Service to His Father Increased Their Glory</h2>
<p>Christ suffering brought about a greater degree of glory from his Father.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">23 ¶ And Jesus answered them, saying, The hour is come, that the Son of man should be <strong>glorified</strong>.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">24 Verily, verily, I say unto you, Except a corn of wheat fall into the ground and die, it abideth alone: but if it die, it bringeth forth much fruit.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">25 He that loveth his life shall lose it; and he that hateth his life in this world shall keep it unto life eternal.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">26 If any man serve me, let him follow me; and where I am, there shall also my servant be: if any man serve me, him will <em>my</em> Father <strong>honour</strong>.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">27 Now is my soul troubled; and what shall I say?  Father, save me from this hour: but for this cause came I unto this hour.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">28 Father, <strong>glorify</strong> thy name.  Then came there a voice from heaven, <em>saying,</em> I have both <strong>glorified</strong> <em>it,</em> and will <strong>glorify</strong> <em>it</em> again.</p>

<h2>VII         We add to God’s Glory by Fulfilling His Mission</h2>
<p>We add to the Glory of God by helping to fulfill his mission, to bring to pass the immortality and eternal life of his children.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">1 I AM the true vine, and my Father is the husbandman.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">5 I am the vine, ye <em>are</em> the branches: He that abideth in me, and I in him, the same bringeth forth much fruit: for without me ye can do nothing.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">8 Herein is my Father <strong>glorified</strong>, that ye bear much fruit; so shall ye be my disciples.</p>

<h2>VIII       How We Can Follow the Savior</h2>
<p>The glory of God comes to us by</p>
<ol>
<li>Enduring to the end,</li>
<li>Enduring the trials of this life with patience and in righteousness, and</li>
<li>By being one in purpose with God the Father and His Son Jesus Christ.</li>
</ol>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">1 THESE words spake Jesus, and lifted up his eyes to heaven, and said, Father, the hour is come; <strong>glorify</strong> thy Son, that thy Son also may <strong>glorify</strong> thee:</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">2 As thou hast given him power over all flesh, that he should give eternal life to as many as thou hast given him.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">3 And this is life eternal, that they might know thee the only true God, and Jesus Christ, whom thou hast sent.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">4 I have <strong>glorified</strong> thee on the earth: I have finished the work which thou gavest me to do.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">5 And now, O Father, <strong>glorify</strong> thou me with thine own self with the <strong>glory</strong> which I had with thee before the world was.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">6 I have manifested thy name unto the men which thou gavest me out of the world: thine they were, and thou gavest them me; and they have kept thy word.</p>

<h2>IX          The Savior’s Words to Peter: “Follow me”</h2>
<p>We glorify God, even through our worst trials, in the same way the Savior did through his.</p>
<p style="padding-left:30px;">18 Verily, verily, I say unto thee, When thou wast young, thou girdedst thyself, and walkedst whither thou wouldest: but when thou shalt be old, thou shalt stretch forth thy hands, and another shall gird thee, and carry <em>thee</em> whither thou wouldest not.</p>
