Heaven refers to multiple things in the scriptures.  This entry simply provides a jumping off point to the detail study of these individual topics.

The Bible Dictionary states heaven “has several meanings in the scriptures.”  These can be seen from the “see also” heading in the topical guide.  They include:

• “Astronomy” or the “expanse around the earth”.
• “Celestial Glory” or “the place where God lives and the future home of the saints”
• “Paradise which is the temporary abode of the faithful spirits of persons who have lived and died on this earth”
