<p>Hope is closely related to desire. Thus, unlike faith which is typically about things that are independent of us, hope is very connected to us. It has a rudder aspect for us, connecting and correcting our course to the proper course.</p>
<p>Confidence, is typically inward focused. Whereas the first principle of the gospel is faith in the Lord Jesus Christ, which is externally focused.</p>
