December 21, 2019: Good news! Wisconsin’s U.S. Congressman Mark Pocan of Wisconsin’s 2nd District is now the 53rd federal representative to co-sponsor H.R. 530, the “Accelerating Broadband Development by Empowering Local Communities Act of 2019.”

H.R. 530 is legislation sponsored by Congresswoman Anna Eshoo of California to overturn the Federal Communication Commission’s (FCC) Order of September 2018 limiting the ability of local governments to regulate the deployment of 5G wireless infrastructure and protect its citizens from 5G, which has not been proven safe.

Congresswoman Eshoo stated the FCC had “failed to listen to reasonable input from communities across the country, cowered to industry interests, and failed to put the public interests first.’”

In a January 15, 2019 press statement Eshoo added, “Having served in local government for a decade on the San Mateo County Board of Supervisors, I understand and respect the important role that state and local governments play in protecting the welfare of their residents.”

The proposed Bill simply reads:

Actions by the Federal Communications Commission in “Accelerating Wireless and Wireline Broadband Deployment by Removing Barriers to Infrastructure Investment” (83 Fed. Reg. 51867) and the Federal Communications Commission’s Declaratory Ruling in “Third Report and Order and Declaratory Ruling” (FCC 18–111) shall have no force or effect.

Congressman Pocan is the second Wisconsin representative to co-sponsor H.R. 530. Congresswoman Gwen Moore of Wisconsin signed on as a co-sponsor in May 2019.
