At a Glance

Gaumahavi, also called the Purple Dragon (though she is not a purple dragon) and the Great Dragon of the Desert Winds, may theoretically be encountered anywhere but is most likely to be found in the Hordelands, Raurin, or the Plains of Purple Dust. She appears to be an extraordinary dragon of purple coloration and the “snake with legs” shape common to oriental dragons.

DM’s Notes

Gaumahavi is a unique creature, and unrelated to all other dragons. She is neutral, and unlikely to be hostile unless attacked, or unless she witnesses someone harming nature in some way. She will also come to the aid of her offspring Sandiraksiva, if she can, but in general she tries to avoid people, particularly after her experiences with the Raja of Solon.

A successful Knowledge check (Local DC 10, Nature DC 10) will tell anyone who encounters Gaumahavi that he is not a typical specimen of either eastern or western dragons. Someone who is familiar with the Padhran religion can (Knowledge Religion DC 15) recognize her as Gaumahavi. Alternatively, knowing something about the history of Ulgarth may (Knowledge History DC 20) may enable recollection of old folk tales surrounding Prince Surtava and his pet leopard.
